Physical DescriptionFramed artwork with four shadowbox panes matted in cream. gold, and brick red. Each box depicts a 3-dimensional cutout-outs layered in relief of different Papua New Guinea bird of paradise species. The birds depicted are the following: Goldies Bird of Paradise, Red Bird of Paradise, Blue Bird of Paradise, and the Raggiana Bird of Paradise.
Historical NoteThe illustrations on this gift were originally published in the ornithological book, The birds of New Guinea and the adjacent Papuan islands : including many new species recently discovered in Australia, published by London, Henry Sotheran & Co, 1875-1888.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
