Physical DescriptionA beaded necklace made of long, brown hairpipe beads and other smaller beads such as turquoise beads, gold metal beads, clear blue and red glass beads, orange clay beads, and small gold metal leaves on the fringe. Beaded segments are separated by leather strips and connected by a large piece of leather around the back of the neck. The necklace is connected in the front with with long leather strips. A bone and fur ornament with carved indentations hangs on the front in the center of the necklace.Overall - 3D (Flat) W 4 in x L 22 1/2 in (10.2 cm x 57.2 cm )
Historical NoteThis necklace was presented to President Barack Obama at the Tribal Nations Conference on December 16, 2010. Subsequently, it was displayed at the White House's Native American Heritage Month exhibit in November 2014 and 2015.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Barack Obama during the Obama administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
