Physical DescriptionEtched crystal 3D Model of High Cross at Durrow. The cross is made from silver recycled from x-ray film. It is covered with Christian scenes and symbols along with Celtic interlaces.
Historical NoteReceived on the occasion of President Barack Obama's visit to Ireland on May 23, 2011. The gifter is the County Manager for Offaly, an area President Obama visited during his trip due to his great-great-great grandfather, Falmouth Kearney, immigrating from Moneygall, a village in the county. The cross presented in the gift is a replica of a historic one outside of Durrow Church. The Offaly County Council and the Heritage Council commissioned for the high cross to be documented in 3D through ArcTron 3D Company in 2009.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
