Physical DescriptionRed, white, and blue quilt, with twenty-five blue squares set in a checkered pattern. The outer squares each feature a red, white, and blue star, with the center square also containing a star. In the squares surrounding the center are eight U.S. Military patches, each representing a different branch of the military, as well as POWs. Yellow ribbons are sewn into the four corner squares and the center square. The fabric on the reverse side features a glittery fireworks pattern. At the top of the back of the quilt there is a fabric pouch across the length for hanging.Historical NoteReceived on the occasion of the Senate Spouses Luncheon, held at the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington, DC on May 11, 2011.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
