Physical DescriptionFramed oil painting that depicts President George Washington against a background of four "HOPE" campaign posters by Shepard Fairey. Each poster depicts President Barack Obama in red, white, and blue. The painting is enclosed in a dark brown wood frame with a gold ornate inner border.
Historical NoteThe artist Carlos Barahona-Possollo based this painting on two artworks: "George Washington" by Gilbert Stuart, painted in 1795 and held in The Frick Collection, and "Hope" by Shepard Fairey.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Barack Obama during the Obama administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
