Physical DescriptionWooden fan with wooden base containing a menu from the Xijiao State Guest House in Shanghai, dated November 10, 2009. Fan has glass face that seals the embroidered menu into place. Handle of fan slots into elaborately carved wooden base. There is a red red tassel attached to the end of the handle.
Historical NoteReceived by President Barack Obama, from Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng, during an official state visit to China in November 2009.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
