Physical DescriptionWooden box with handles on both sides and decorated with gold colored grommets and gold colored metal overlay, with a mirror and red velvet inside with four detachable wooden feet. The gold decoration on top is in a floral pattern. The clasp for the front is triangular shaped. The decorations on the front are rectangular with smaller tablet shaped decorations inside them. They have solid metal plate decoration around them with leaf and cross shaped decorations cutout. There are solid gold-colored rectangular decoration at each corner. Two holes on the bottom in the back, perhaps to attach two of the feet. Two of the feet have holes in them, to attach hardware, and two do not.Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to the First Family during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
