Physical DescriptionWatercolor painting of genealogical chart depicting a tree with many green branches and a long trunk. The base of the tree has a gold plaque bearing the name of a person born in Reims, France in 1415, followed by plaques with the names and dates of life for descendents, ending at the top with a plaque bearing the names of President Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson. On either side of the tree are paintings of the Statue of Liberty and the Notre-Dame de Paris. Painted in the top left corner is the coat of arms of Reims, and in the top right corner the family crest of Brassier de Jocas is painted.
Historical NoteMayor Adeline Hazan of Reims, France sent this genealogical chart to President Barack Obama, tracing his lineage back to an ancestor born in Reims in 1415.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
