Physical DescriptionBackes & Strauss wristwatch with face featuring 18-karat gold, three rows of round cut diamonds set around the face and a double row of round cut diamonds that secure the brown leather bands. The Ghanaian flag is illustrated around the moon phase. The dial of the watch has the Backes & Strauss signature “Jewel in the Crown”, a .09 karat round cut diamond.

Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.
