Pope Francis State Visit 20152015

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed Pope Francis to the White House for an official State Visit on September 23, 2015. On the first day of the visit, the President and the Pope met to discuss immigration, US-Cuba relations, and religious tolerance. The following day, Pope Francis addressed a joint session of Congress, where he highlighted issues relating to the treatment of immigrants, religious persecution, poverty, climate change, and capital punishment.

Pope Francis departed Washington, DC on September 25 to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York City, followed by the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia.
