The fourth Nuclear Security Summit was held on March 31 and April 1, 2016 in Washington, DC. The purpose of the summit series is to promote international collaboration in combating the threat of nuclear terrorism, protecting nuclear materials and facilities, and preventing trafficking of nuclear materials. The 2016 summit resulted in commitments to the reduction of plutonium and enriched uranium stockpiles, additional support to nuclear security, and a strengthened nuclear security agreement.
