G7 Summit Ise-Shima 2016

Event TypeIntergovernmental Summit
May 25, 2016 - May 29, 2016
The G7 is an intergovernmental forum consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US. The forum had previously included Russia and was known as the G8, but reverted to the G7 when Russia was expelled from the group due to its annexation of Crimea. The European Union also participates as a “non-enumerated member.” The goal of the G7 is to discuss major global issues, including trade, security, economics, and climate change. The Heads of State for the member countries would meet at an annual summit, with the agenda set by the host country.

The 42nd G7 summit was held in Ise-Shima, Japan from May 26 to May 27, 2016. The topics of discussion for the summit, as set by host country Germany, consisted of the global economy, the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe, clean energy, and gender equality, amongst others.
