The seventieth session of the United Nations General Assembly ran from September 15, 2015 to September 13, 2016 and was presided over by Mogens Lykketoft of Denmark. The theme of the seventieth session was "The United Nations at 70: the road ahead for peace, security and human rights.”

President Barack Obama attended the assembly from September 28 to September 29, 2015. President Obama presented a speech to the General Assembly on September 28, 2015 in which he vowed to resolve the Syrian Civil War, addressed sanctions against Russia, and urged collective action against religious extremism. President Obama also took part in various meetings and councils.
