G8 Summit Deauville 2011
Event TypeIntergovernmental Summit
May 26, 2011 - May 27, 2011
The G8 was an intergovernmental forum consisting of the world’s largest high-income countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US, and Russia. The European Union also participated as a “non-enumerated member.” The goal of the G8 was to discuss major global issues, including trade, security, economics, and climate change. The Heads of State for the member countries would meet at an annual summit, with the agenda set by the host country. The G8 reverted to the G7 in 2014, following the suspension of Russia due to the annexation of Crimea.
The 37th G8 summit was held in Deauville, France from May 26 to May 27, 2011. The topics of discussion for the summit, as set by host country France, consisted of the Arab Spring, strengthening partnerships with African countries, and addressing modern challenges such as sustainable economies and nuclear safety, amongst others.
