The 2012 Chicago Summit was a NATO summit of heads of state and heads of government held in Chicago, Illinois, on May 20 and May 21, 2012. The agenda included discussions on the slow economic recovery; violent crises, such as the Libyan Civil War, the Arab Spring, and the ongoing war in Afghanistan; missile defense and nuclear deterrence; and “smart defense”, or a shared-cost plan amongst NATO countries for weapons and equipment.
