Chicago
The Obama family has a long-standing connection to the city of Chicago. First Lady Michelle Obama was born and raised on Chicago’s South Shore. She met her future-husband, Barack Obama, when they worked together at a Chicago law firm in 1989. After marrying, the Obamas settled on Chicago’s South Side, where the future-President taught at the University of Chicago Law School, before being elected to the Illinois state senate in 1996. This collection reflects the family’s love of the city, having received many Chicago-themed gifts during the years of the Obama Administration. The artifact depicted here is Signed Chicago Cubs Win Flag (DO.128325), received on the occasion of a ceremony at the White House on January 6, 2017 to honor the 2016 World Series Champions Chicago Cubs.
