Sports Championships

The tradition of inviting championship teams to the White House began in 1865, when President Andrew Johnson hosted the Brooklyn Atlantics baseball team after they won the National Amateur Association Championship. Under the Obama Administration, 86 teams ranging from Little League to professional were invited to the White House to celebrate their accomplishments. This collection highlights some of the gifts given to the Obama family by various sports teams and athletes. The artifact depicted here is Signed Official Super Bowl XLVI Football (DO.06252012-4-1), gifted to President Obama on the occasion of a ceremony at the White House on June 8, 2012 to honor the Super Bowl XLVI Champion New York Giants.
