Physical Description
Physical DescriptionA three-wick soy candle (.a) with a raised design along the side. The design is inspired from the frieze that decorates the North Portico of the White House and features an oak leaf and rose garland motif. The three wicks are evenly spaced in the center of the candle. The box (.b-c) that the candle was presented in is made of blue and brown cardboard, with an elastic band attached to the bottom section. Attached to the band is a metal clasp of the same oak leaf and rose design found on the candle. The box design features an image of the White House on the side.

Historical NoteThis candle is an example of the diplomatic gifts that the US Department of State would give to foreign leaders during the Obama Administration. This one was a gift from First Lady Michelle Obama and intended for foreign leaders at the UN General Assembly in 2010. The candle was included in a basket along with a clay jar with chamomile tea, a jar of pickled vegetables, and honey harvested from the White House Kitchen Garden.Custodial History / ProvenanceThis item is material associated with various agencies and offices during the Obama administration and maintained as government property until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
