President Barack Obama welcomed Taoiseach Brian Cowen of Ireland to the White House on March 17, 2009. During a ceremony in the Roosevelt Room, Taoiseach Cowen presented President Obama with a traditional crystal bowl of shamrocks. President Obama also met with First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness of Northern Ireland. Other guests of the festivities included Mayor Pádraig Conneely of Galway, Ireland and Danny Kennedy, a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Northern Ireland.
