Visit to Ireland 20112011

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama traveled to Ireland on May 23, 2011. The goal of the visit was to strengthen US-Ireland relations, while celebrating President Obama’s Irish ancestry. President Obama and the First Lady arrived in Dublin, where they were greeted by President Mary McAleese of Ireland and her husband, Martin McAleese, at the Presidential Palace. They then traveled to Farmleigh, the Taoiseach's residence, where the Obamas met with Prime Minister Enda Kenny of Ireland and his wife, Fionnuala Kenny. President Obama and the First Lady then traveled to Moneygall, the ancestral home of President Obama, where they met with a distant cousin.
