The G8 was an intergovernmental forum consisting of the world’s largest high-income countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US, and Russia. The European Union also participated as a “non-enumerated member.” The goal of the G8 was to discuss major global issues, including trade, security, economics, and climate change. The Heads of State for the member countries would meet at an annual summit, with the agenda set by the host country. The G8 reverted to the G7 in 2014, following the suspension of Russia due to the annexation of Crimea.
The 36th G8 summit was held in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada, from June 25 to June 26, 2010. The topics of discussion for the summit, as set by host country Canada, consisted of the global recession recovery, financial secretary reform, and the nuclear programs of Iran and North Korea, amongst others.
