ASEAN Cambodia 20122012
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is an intergovernmental forum composed of independent member states from the Southeast Asia region. The objective of the forum is to promote economic growth, social progress, cultural development, and regional peace through security cooperation among its members. Although not a member of ASEAN, the United States participates as a “dialogue partner.”
President Obama attended the 2012 ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on November 19, 2012. The President met with Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia, and attended a US-ASEAN Leaders’ meeting, a Trans-Pacific Partnership meeting, and the East Asia Summit meeting.
