The first Nuclear Security Summit was held on April 12 and April 13, 2010 in Washington, DC. President Obama invited over fifty world leaders together to bring attention to the global threats posed by nuclear terrorism. Together, participating leaders committed to a common approach to strengthening nuclear security: to ensure effective security of all nuclear materials, to reduce the use of weapons-usable materials in civilian applications, and to work cooperatively as an international community to advance these goals.
