Visit to Brazil 20112011

President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and their daughters traveled to Brasilia, Brazil for an official State Visit on March 19, 2011. President Obama met with the newly elected president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff at the Palácio do Planalto. The goal of the visit was to strengthen US-Brazil trade relations.

President Obama then traveled to Rio de Janeiro, where he spoke to a crowd about colonialism, democracy, and advancing US-Brazil partnerships. President Obama also toured a favela, or Brazilian slum, and the Obama family visited the Christ the Redeemer statue.
