Visit to Argentina 2016
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 23, 2016. During the visit, President Obama met with recently-elected President Mauricio Macri of Argentina, and the two heads of state discussed improving US-Argentina relations and strengthening economic cooperation. Later that day, President Obama held a town hall meeting with young entrepreneurs at the Usina del Arte center. The following day, the 40th anniversary of the 1976 military coup, President Obama visited the Parque de la Memoria to honor the victims of Argentina’s “Dirty War.” Simultaneously, it was announced that the United States would declassify military and intelligence documents relating to the war. President Obama was also honored with a State Dinner at the Kirchner Cultural Centre.
